American Thermoplastic
Company
is a good example of a
small manufacturer
becoming
successful by
finding its own niche in the marketplace.
Rather than taking on the giants of the
loose leaf binder industry, American
Thermoplastic developed another strategy.
As a result, they are a leading supplier
of custom imprinted binders and related
loose-leaf products to business,
industrial, and educational accounts
throughout North
America.

| In
1954, Aaron Silberman opened a small company on
First Avenue in Pittsburgh to provide local
businesses with foil-stamped vinyl products.
American Thermoplastic Company’s production and
office facilities were located on the fifth
floor of a small building and Mr. Silberman
juggled the duties of president, salesman, and
production manager. |
|
Over the years, the company
flourished and the next generation stepped
in. In 1994, the company’s 40th
anniversary, ATC moved into a state-of-the-art
building in one of Pittsburgh’s
Industrial
Development Parks. This specially designed
and custom built manufacturing plant,
warehouse, and office facility is larger and
much more efficient than the previous
location.

In
1999, their DTE Accounting software
suite was upgraded in
preparation for Y2K. Their
existing UNIX based HP9000
system more than adequately managed their
custom, in-house Sales Order and DTE
Accounting software needs. Incorporating
their Sales Order data with Down To Earth
General Ledger, Accounts Payable, and
Payroll accounting applications created
the complete software package -- Down To
Earth was the link to bring the sales and
accounting together on a single
system.
|
| The
year 2005 was another year of change but this
time for the accounting staff. Their
previous Down To Earth software was
upgraded to version 7 and transferred from
their UNIX based system to a Windows
Server. The lengthy historical data was
kept intact with the conversion while the new
features of version 7
proved their
worth within the Windows
environment. |
