Summit Tree
Stands marked its
25th year of business in 2006 and is still

Early on,
the founder, John Woller
Sr., recognized the faults
of climbing tree stands. They were too
heavy, held together with bolts or rivets
that squeaked with the slightest
movement, were uncomfortable, and
possibly most important, unsafe. As an
engineer and a hunter, he knew he could
make a better
one.

| Woller Sr.’s intent
was
not to create a company that was to become the
leader in the tree stand industry. His focus
was on the product. After much research and
plenty of discarded designs, he came up with
his original stand and began slowly and
meticulously producing them for his
friends. |

Summit is as much a family
business as any, with father,
John Woller Sr., as the figurehead, and sons
John Jr., Ron and Will — plus son-in-law David
— all in leadership roles within the company.
Summit Treestands LLC was purchased by
EBSCO in 2002, and the decision to sell was a
difficult one for Woller Sr. “It’s been a very
satisfying relationship, though,” Woller Sr.
said. “When it’s working you just keep it
working.” That’s a statement echoed by Will,
who says the company is still run like it was
before the
sale.

| Down To Earth is proud to be a
part of this success story for over
15 years. Processing side by side with
Summit Treestand’s web-front end orders and
corporate accounting interface, Summit
Treestand’s Down To Earth v7 manages the Sales
Order, Inventory, and Manufacturing side of the
tree stand products. During the seasonal
peak, all keyboards are busy shipping over
1,000 tree stands in a day to private
individuals and large companies such as LL Bean
and Cabelas. |
