Import & Export data Import & Export of DTE data

Many DTE v7 applications offer special Import and Export features to enable data sharing between systems and software. Here are just a few that may help you. For more complete instructions and field descriptions, please refer to the individual application User's Reference Manual.

I have a third party software and service company that needs my DTE data in an ascii or comma delimited format. Does DTE have this ability? Can I read DTE Data into Excel®?

There are many Yes  answers to these two questions.  Link below to find more details on methods to Import Inventory items and Names/Addresses or utilize  ODBC connection.  In addition learn how to Export Any data from any file, G/L financial data,  Inventory Price and Physical count worksheets, and Name/Address data.

 Import Inventory Items:

The ability to import items from a new vendor makes starting a new line of products easy. Because data provided is varied, a template item ID is used to establish codes the vendor may not provide.

The process imports to the item master file (initem.ism ), the location file (inlocn.ism ), and the bin file (inabin.ism ) records from a delimited or fixed length file. Select "Import ascii file to item" from the Inventory Miscellaneous menu column and follow the window prompts to your specifications.

Import Name/Address data:

Previously exported records that are verified within a third party can be imported along with an error code for correction via "Import fixed addresses" selection of the Miscellaneous menu column. The file imported must be located in the WRK  directory and with the filename of dtenames.txt .

Utilize ODBC Connectivity from within third party software:

ODBC (Open DataBase Connectivity) drivers may be licensed as part of your SynergyDE programming language.  ODBC uses the standard Repository (RPS) that includes the primary DTE data files.  A Catalog is easily generated then used as a tool to extract Down To Earth data.  The data is imported directly into an Excel® spreadsheet or to generate a report with Crystal Report Writer®.

Export Any DTE data, from almost any data file:

All DTE data files are defined within the standard Repository required for the System Manager, "Export data file" menu selection within the Files Menu column. That means that you can extract data from any file or files with a defined relationship, export to the file type of your choices, at any time.

In addition to choosing the fields to export, you can also apply up to five "filters" to only export the particular records you need. For complete detailed instructions, please refer to the System Manager User's Reference Manual, "Export data files from DTE data file" section.

NOTE -- The Repository (or copy of) must be in the DTE directory defined as UTF. The .ism / .is1 files necessary for this feature are included with your distribution as rpsctrl, rpsmain, and rpstext.

Export G/L financial data for each period of any fiscal year:

Select “Export financial data” from the General Ledger Miscellaneous menu column to create a comma delimited file with data fields representing each period for a given year.  There are several parameters for the data including the fiscal year, ranges of account number, division, and department codes, and if you want to include accounts with a zero balance.

The file generated is found in the WRK directory as glchrt.txt .

Export Inventory Price and History report lists:

Select “Price reports” from the “Pricing” sub menu and choose Report type 8 - export file to create the WRK:inpric.txt  comma delimited file. Or choose Export  for the Output type when printing an Item (transaction) history report for the delimited WRK:in6900.txt  filename.

Export Inventory physical count worksheets:

Printing a physical count worksheet also has the option of creating a comma delimited ascii file instead of or in addition to the paper worksheet. Simply select Export as the type of report to create the WRK:in5050.txt file.

Export Name/Address records for verification:

Comma delimited and/or Fixed length ascii file formats are offered with many Name/Address Miscellaneous menu column selections. Used most often to verify current data within your company or from an outside service company. This process insures accuracy for any customer and vendor contact.

1. "Export addresses (delim/fixed)" as WRK:8000.txt
2. "Determine customers not used" as WRK:8100.txt
3. "Determine vendors not used" as WRK:8200.txt
4. "Export fixed addresses" as WRK:dtenames.txt
