Mailing Labels &
Holiday Greetings

Holiday greetings and well wishes to your customers and vendors is a great public relations gesture.

Within Down To Earth v7, you can easily create mailing labels with varied label styles and selection options.

All labels are generated from within the Name/Address application, Reports/Inquiry menu column, "Labels" menu selection. There are two operator entry windows -- 1) to choose the format and label specs and 2) to specify the names to be included.

The label format can be any of the nine choices with the most popular being laser label 8.5" x 11" sheet compatible with Avery 5160 (3 across and 10 down, 6 lines each label).

You can sort the labels in order by ID, Sort name, Zip code, or City and specify the number of lines to print on the label.

After the Print Option is selected, the window displays and provides many options to narrow your label contents. For example, a range of IDs or names, for a single state, and vendors only or combined with customers, just to name a few.

In addition, you can utilize the Group codes and filters previously defined within the Groups Tab of any Name and Address master.
So make holiday cheer or any mailing simple when Down To Earth does the addressing for you.

SynergyDE v9.1.5b Release

For those customers wanting "Keep up with the Gates?" technology, Windows 7 OS is generally getting good reviews.

Frequent comments include reviewers saying Windows 7 is "what Vista should have been."

So if you didn't make the jump to Vista and are considering Windows 7® instead, there are a couple of things you should know with regard to Down To Earth:
December 2009Any SynergyDE version less than v9.1.5b is not compatible with Windows 7. (Even v9.1.5 needs the "b" to work with Windows 7.)
December 2009 If you're covered with Annual License Maintenance (ALM), the upgrade is no charge. If you don't have an ALM agreement, the upgrade is still available. Please contact us for pricing.
December 2009 Even if you're moving to a 64-bit system, the upgrade is covered with ALM.
December 2009 If your current SynergyDE version is v7 or less, there may be some minor changes required for your Down To Earth programs. (Also no cost to our DTE supported customers.)
December 2009 The SynergyDE upgrade is available for download from our site -- contact us for the direct link.
Unix or VMS servers using Vista or Windows 7 clients and terminal emulation are not required to install SynergyDE v9 to be compatible.

It you're not completely sure if a SynergyDE upgrade is required, contact DTE Support for additional information. To find out what SynergyDE version you are currently using, please keep reading or contact DTE Technical support.

WHAT'S
YOUR
VERSION?

It's good to know what software versions you have installed in today's ever changing Techno-world. Not all software versions work on all operating systems.

Although you never "see" it, Down To Earth is created using the program language, DBL (SynergyDE). The SynergyDE version is key to processing in your Operating System environment. You can easily find your SynergyDE version anytime...

Windows Environment:
Version steps Left-click on the Start button, select Run.
Version steps Type dbr in the Open field prompt.
Version steps A window displays the Synergy Runtime Version number
in the colored bar at the top.

Unix environment:
Version steps Login to your system but stay at the system prompt.
(This login should set all required logicals.)
Version steps With logicals set, type: dbr
Version steps The DBL runtime version is displayed.

Emotional Text

If you’ve ever chatted online or had a text conversation with a friend, the emotional aspect of typing a conversation is difficult at best.

In this impersonal but popular conversation style, “Emoticons” can help convey the missing feelings. Most of the time, the keyboard characters stay as typed but sometimes, as with Facebook®  chatting, they automatically turn into a real little Smiley Face.

Here are some emotional characters that might help you see the true meaning of a words only conversation.
