Down To Earth

Choosing your unique colors to use in Down To Earth for Windows isn’t as hard as you might think.  That standard grey background with black lettering is OK but if you’d like to add some  c o l o r   to your day, you can!

March means the beginning of Spring.  What better way to welcome the season than with
c o l o r.

There are two parts – the MS Windows®   top bar and the DTE software colors within each window.     Anyone can easily change the MS Windows top bar on their individual PC.    Changing DTE colors requires a little bit more information and knowledge of the DTE synergy.ini  file.

For complete instructions and examples, link below and add a little color to your day!

Next Generation of Wireless...
3G vs 4G

Many people use 3G and may not know what it is. And now they're talking 4G! So what exactly are they talking about?

It's billed as the Third Generation (3G) of wireless and mobile communication.  The 3G technology allows telephone conversation coverage from a wide area as well as internet access and video conferencing.

And it's fast... data transfer can travel up to 2mb per second when the phone is indoors and stays in one place.  (Speed decreases in a moving vehicle.)

The 3G technology sounds great so how is 4G better?  The Fourth Generation (4G) will do everything 3G does ... but better and faster.  Comprehensive and more secure IP (Internet Protocol) access will provide ?anytime, anywhere? access.  Also included is the ability for HD (High Definition) video and data transfer standard of 100 Mbps (megabytes per second).

With the enhanced technology of 4G, new opportunities will open up not only for telephones but for any wireless network and communication system.

Although this technology is not available to the general public just yet, look for 4G technology announcements by the end of 2010.  Then you, too can talk, download, & watch videos ... in a flash!

Accurate 1099s
for 2010

The end of another year has come and gone and government reporting is complete.

But if you noticed the 1099 data needed adjusting and not sure why, keep reading to better understand how the 1099 reported dollars are managed in DTE.

There are two windows that control what and how 1099 earnings are reported - the Vendor Tab (master) and the A/P Invoice distribution.  Because they work together, it's important to understand how.

Vendor Tab (master):
There are two fields within the Vendor Tab that determine the 1099 definition ---  1) Print 1099/1042   and   2) 1099/1042 default.

The Print 1099/1042  (yes/no) field value is used to decide if the vendor is getting a 1099 at year end. If Yes, this vendor is included in the 1099 print process.
The 1099/1042 default is the 1099 code most often used as the reporting category for this vendor. For example, M07 is Non-employee compensation. However, that default may need to be changed during invoice entry, depending on the situation.

A/P Invoice Distribution:
This window controls whether an amount is reported on a 1099 when the invoice is paid.  However, the value may require adjustment based on the type of distribution.  For example,

If a vendor has more than one type of 1099 reporting, the operator must tell DTE if the distribution is for something other than the default.  Such as, most often Non-employee compensation (M07) but sometimes Medical Care (M06).
If a vendor receives non-employee compensation AND expense reimbursements, non-employee compensation is reportable, expense reimbursement is not.  The expense reimbursement must be entered as :None for the 1099 code.

With a better understanding of how DTE 1099s work throughout the year, your 2010 reporting will be a piece of cake!
